Born and raised in rural Australia, MacKenzie fell in love with acting at the age of four. She partook in every acting class and training program she could before she decided to move to America to pursue a stronger education. She attended Idyllwild Arts Academy and then went on to continue her education at Cornish College of the Arts, where she discovered her love of writing, directing, Shakespeare, and clown. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2020. She is now based in Chicago.

MacKenzie has always loved finding the comedy in life, particularly the difficult and sad moments. She learned how to hone her sense of humour into writing under the tutelage of A. Rey Pamatmat. Being a queer woman, she finds it important to be able to showcase LGBTQ+ stories, creating pieces that allow for queer stories to be told that don’t just focus on themes of identity, but allow for queer characters to exist in every plot-line and situation.

MacKenzie’s style embraces her Australian sensibilities while exploring themes of the burden on women to maintain the family unit and the ways we hold ourselves in the familial hierarchy. Her 10 minute play Much Ado About Pussy was produced as part of a short play festival in 2019. MacKenzie is proud to have made her Seattle debut in the Seattle Shakespeare Company’s production of Troilus and Cressida. She is currently working on a full length comedy highlighting the awkward and often complicated familial dynamics that can play out after a death, in which a daughter attempts to host the perfect funeral for her narcissistic mother.
